Bargain Of The Week...

So, yesterday I was in [insert ubiquitous supermarket chain], shopping for nothing in particular when I found Million Dollar Baby on DVD for £2.84! Excellent. How good is that? I spend more than that on my tea break at work. I lose more than that every week! Fact: the best movie of 2006... OK, so it was actually made in 2004, but I didn't see it until last year, happy? If you haven't seen it I urge you to check it out.

Lump-in-the-throat time, even for a hard man such as my good self.

Heck yeah, Million Dollar Baby is one hell of a ride...

Think by the end of that movie I was feeling the same as I was after watching Once Were Warriors...numb

I didn't quite get the ending. Oh, not the pulling the plug bit, but the part where Morgan Freeman sent the letter to the daughter. Seemed unnecessary since they didn't really explain why the daughter and Clint Eastwood's character had a falling out in the first place.

It just seemed a convenient excuse for Morgan Freeman to do the narration, with no real benefit to the plot.

The funny thing is that I felt more sympathy for the chick when she was taking half-eaten food from the diner. Once she was in the hospital, it seemed like a completely different movie. Powerful, but seperate from the "underdog" theme of the first half.

Emory, my husband, saw that movie, but I never did. I have this thing about drama. There are very few I can sit through. I have one of those hair trigger emotion issues. We just recently saw "Pursuit of Happiness," and Goddess, that movie had me rooting for Will Smith's character the whole way through.

Wow, I have to say that's really cheap for a movie. The best out here is about 5.99, or sometimes 4.99, but very rarely is it cheaper than that.

Christina, it's well worth a watch. You won't be disappointed, even if you're a cynic by nature.

Whiz - stop rainin' on my parade, man! It's a great movie, end of story.

:o)

Not seen it but been meaning to - must look out for a cheap copy!

Re the holiday, Australia would be my choice but only if I had plenty of time to do it.

Hi Brian,

Can't comment on MDB (dramas aren't my cup of tea) but I do want to thank you for stopping by my site.

Sorry, Brian. I suppose I should have started that movie with "It was a great movie." I really did think it was great, I just felt like sharing my analysis of it.

I went into the movie with no clear idea of what it would be. I thought it was going to be a "Rocky with breasts" type of movie. When things went wrong, it jumped the quality of the movie up by at least, say, ten. It was just so far off from what I expected.

Oops. Typo. Pretend I said "I should have started that comment with..."

Chuck, thanks for droppin' in. Those kind of drama ain't usually my thing either, but variety and spices and all that...

Whiz, I agree. I thought it was all goin' to be about the boxin'. Not that I am complainin', but expectation does sometimes throw you off a little.

Thanks for the comments, guys.

I'll have to ask Peg if I've watched it or not. Crap with film titles.
