Words...

I'm not reading as much as I used to and, to that end, I ain't writing as much either. Hopefully I am both reading and writing better stuff, but who can tell?

When I was in my teens and early twenties I got through a lot of books. Granted, these days a book is still never more than a few feet away from me - and I can still be seen walking and reading a paperback at the same time; crossing busy streets, accidents be damned - but life kinda sucks your free time away, especially when you find yourself in your thirties having to juggle a Wife, a job, and lots of other things that you didn't really think about back in the darkened days of your youth.

I sometimes look at the pages I wrote then as well, and I laugh. But it isn't comedy. Was I really that naive? When I was young I obviously thought big words were good words as my prose was peppered with them, but invariably they are just pretentious alternatives. Nothing that a nice four-letter word couldn't handle.

Quality over quantity. That's what I'm hoping for anyway.

I don't recall you using big words. Too many? Yeah, of course. But who hasn't written ten words when three or four would suffice. Your prose these days is super-lean in comparison, no question.

I enjoy your work and did think it over wordy so that has to be good. Me being an expert on these things!
Thanks for the Japan comments I will get to writing some blog on parts in the coming weeks...

Thanks Steve, but hopefully not too lean. I suppose that's the fine line you gotta stay the right side of.

Ben - over wordy? Oh dear... back to the drawin' board for me then. It ain't meant to be like that!

Walking and reading...I thought I was the only one.

It's a skill that has to be learned, took me a while!

I don't do it as much these day (readin' and walkin', that is...). The older you get, the stranger it looks I reckon.
